2008 Competitions

British Kata Championships - 14 September 2008

For the second year running St Albans JC sent a squad to this competition. Kata Squad 2008Kata Squad 2008The squad was larger than last year because 2 additional katas were entered. The many months of training paid off as the trophy tally started to grow. Bradley Howell & Victoria Cleevely took gold in both the under 12s nage no kata and Katame no kata while Bradley’s sister Elena took silver with her partner, James Davis, in the under 12s Katame no kata. Tomi Borzák and Megan Taylor took bronze in the under 16s nage no kata while Megan along with Sophie Day managed a silver in the under 16s juno kata, an excellent achievement as they only started training in this kata earlier this year.
The seniors didn’t disappoint either. Darren Rolph and Ricky Cleevely managed silver in Kime no kata while Zoli Borzák and Bob Cleevely made a respectable 4th place, just missing out on a medal in katame no kata. This spurred them on to reach silver medal position in ju no kata.
A medal tally of 2 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze paid testament to the hard work and dedication that the squad puts in, especially the juniors. They should all be proud of their achievement.
